Sourdough.
Sourdough bread is one of natures greatest gifts: a simply made superfood that’s full of probiotic benefits, especially when you use fresh, preservative-free whole ground flour like ours.
Starter Basics
-
Making Starter from Scratch.
We recommend beginning with our whole ground Rye flour and unchlorinated tap water. This process will take a few minutes every day for one week, so we recommend you plan ahead. Sadie used our whole ground Rye flour to conjure up our family starter, “Henry.” Sourdough cultures are fond of the enzymes and nutrition in Rye, but will still work well with most flours.

Taking Care of a Purchased Starter.
Starter purchased from Highland Harmony Farm comes from Sadie’s starter, “Henry.” He was grown from our whole ground Rye with the addition of the natural cultures in our high elevation Montana air. For best results, begin feeding your new starter with our rye flour. If you’d like to change it up, please do this slowly, a little at a time, to keep your new little friend happy and active.
